Lime Gelato | 24 Days of Tea: Day 21

Lime Gelato - 24 Days of Tea Day 21Remember the summer you spent in Italy? Sipping espresso on the terrace, catching a ride on the back of a stranger’s Vespa, and of course, trying your first taste of tart, creamy lime gelato. With its fresh, fruity aroma and smooth flavour, this deliciously creamy mix of fruit and green tea will bring you right back. Try it iced. On a terrace. While the moon hits your eye.

aroma:

Lime Gelato has a sweet, fresh, and juicy key lime pie aroma with a hint of peppermint. A bit nutty, it has a subtle backbone of good green tea scents and a soft vanilla presence.

flavour:

After a three minute steep this green tea was quite soft in flavour so I put the steeper back in for another minute but it remained fairly subdued. The flavour is smooth and creamy with a nutty presence at the start that turns into a stronger lime presence towards the end. Subdued vanilla notes and a touch of grassy green tea also make their presence known. I suspect this tea may be more enjoyable brewed in larger quantities than a single serving, it was hard to get much green tea into my scoop around the larger pieces.

Silk Dragon Jasmine | 24 Days of Tea #18

Silk Dragon Jasmine - 24 Days of Tea Day 18Made from premium green tea, our Silk Dragon is a limited-edition treasure. To create it, night-blooming jasmine is gathered in the morning and kept cool all day. In the evening, when the flowers burst open and release their scent, they are placed with the tea until midnight. This is repeated with fresh flowers over the course of five nights, infusing the tea with a most magical flavour. (MK Kosher)

aroma:

This aromatic green tea is full of lovely grassy green tea notes with just enough floral to dress it up a bit. Light and airy, it is a welcoming and mellow treat.

flavour:

The flavour of Silk Dragon Jasmine is more robust with a stronger green tea presence and just a touch of subtly sweet jasmine florals. I don’t know whether I just happened to steep it perfectly or if it is the effect of the jasmine flowers but this tea has no hint of astringency and is just a touch bitter, enough to balance the floral notes without overpowering them.

aroma:

Buddha’s Blend has a gorgeous floral aroma with lovely, light, and airy green tea scents and a subtle, sweet fruitiness. Tangerine citrus notes fade into the background but add a nice brightness to this brew.

flavour:

Very subtle at first, the flavour of this tea grows into a great balance of white and green teas that is mellow and relaxing. A heavily backloaded flavour, it starts out very subtle before building to a mild citrus green tea. I may have brewed this one a tad too hot for the first try as there is a bit of astringency to this one that feels like it shouldn’t be there. Overall quite nice but be sure not to brew it too hot and bruise the leaves.

Genmaicha | 24 Days of Tea: Day 9

Genmaicha - 24 Days of Tea Day 9Some people call Genmaicha popcorn tea because it contains whole roasted grains of brown rice, some of which have popped. Others call it the Rice Krispie of green teas. Either way, genmaicha was originally drunk by poor Japanese who used the rice as a filler because they couldn’t afford enough tea leaves. It soon became all the rage. Today, everyone is addicted to its sweet, toasted rice flavour. (MK Kosher)

aroma:

This fresh green tea has gorgeous roasted rice scents with a touch of sweetness. Cozy and inviting, it is a fantastical everyday green tea.

flavour:

Genmaicha does not have an overly complex taste but it is an extremely nice one. Delicious and mildly sweet roasted rice dominates and is buoyed up by a great, light green tea flavour. Great with food or on its own, this is a particularly good blend of this Japanese staple.

aroma:

This lovely blend of rooibos and sencha teas features a very clean aroma full of earthy and fresh notes of lemongrass, ginger, and juniper. Hints of citrus round out the scent with notes of fresh-cut grass and just a touch of florals, making it smell like all the best parts of Spring!

flavour:

The best way to describe the flavour of this tea is fresh and clean. Definite lemongrass notes break through the base of rooibos and sencha which combine beautifully for a rich, earthy flavour. Faint citrus notes and a touch of ginger round it out and bring a lovely touch of spiciness.  A highly energizing blend, I recommend this tea for early mornings and busy days.
